WHAT IS WARR? (updated for 2025)
- The airline world championship in road running (5k and 10k) – but also a social event for a good cause, held yearly since 1982!
- Attended by 700+ runners and walkers from 60+ airlines around the globe!
- Parts of the sign-up fees go to a local charity
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
- A timed 5k/10k run on a closed course – flat and fast!
- An event T-Shirt, a starter bag with goodies, high quality medals for all finishers and trophies for the winners
- Multiple events: Meetup (Thur), T-Shirt Swap (Fri) and Post-Race Party (Sat).
WHAT DO I NEED TO JOIN?
- Sign up fee: 55 CHF (+10 CHF for both races, 10 CHF early discount before 1st May, +booking fee)
- Ideally at least one overnight stay (Fri), but possibly two (Fri, Sat) or three (Thu-Sat) – special hotel rates available!
- At least one Airline T-Shirt per participant for the T-Shirt Swapping Party (optional)
- One “Team Captain” per Team to attend the Captains Meeting on Friday
ARE THERE PREREQUISITES?
You should be an airline employee or retiree. You are however welcome to bring any other runners affiliated with your team, e.g. spouses, friends or family. Simply mark them as “non-airline runners” in the signup!
I AM NOT A FAST RUNNER, SHOULD I EVEN JOIN?
Absolutely! While for some the WARR surely has a competitive aspect, for the majority it is also a big social event to meet other airliners and jointly experience the host country. For the 5k race there is no cut-off time, we welcome many walkers every year: the average finisher time for the 5k in Auckland was 40m30s.
And don’t worry – for the team competition, only the fastest runners count, so you don’t harm your team by posting a slower time.
